How long have you been in business?
10 years
What is your primary product or service?
dog walking, cat sitting, overnight care, medical procedures for animals that are sick and require the extra care
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
owner of Westie from 1962-1969; owner of Labrador Retriever from 1969-1988; owner of Persian Angora cat from 1969-1989; raised two litters of puppies; worked as a Kennel Attendant for Bergen Animal Hospital in Lodi New Jersey from 3/1989-11/1989, Decided at that point I didn't agree with Vets philosophy of walking dogs for 5 minutes each and left on own accord. I always have been interested in animals and have a wonderful way of connecting with them. My sister gave me the idea to research the profession, and I did from 2/98-7/98. I opened my business 7/98 after mentoring with other sitters; reading books and journals on animal care, read Pattie Moran's book on how to start a pet service. I also met with SCORE; Senior Citizens of Retired Executives and got a business plan together. Since starting in July 98, I've developed a recession proof business that demands almost all of my time
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
I go the extra mile to satisfy my customers by providing high quality care, whether I'm doing the call myself, or if it is being handled by one of my subcontractors. I now have a staff of 4 subcontractors that I call on to assist me with pet care
