Interview Q&A
How long have you been in business?
I started as a feng shui consultant in 2004, but started my interior design business after graduating with a degree in Interior Design in 2007.
What is your primary product or service?
Based on your specific needs and desires, a Design Concept is determined. Structural layout options, floor plans, color scheme, materials and surface options as well as preliminary selections of furniture, window treatments, floor design, lighting and fabrics may all be included in the Design Concept. Following this, the interior design concept will be formally presented to you for comments and approval. During this meeting, we will focus your options on each design element as well as the overall plan. If there are parts of the design that need to be honed, investigated or sourced, we will quickly do so and confirm your final approval on those items. we work out all details, develop and finalize all structural elements, construction documents, and floor plans. Coordinating and collaborating with others involved in your project (e.g. the architect, the contractor, and sub-contractors) occurs at this juncture for the most effective design development. Hard goods such as flooring, doors, and cabinets become part of the structure. The soft goods such as window coverings, sofas and rugs are components that are non-permanent. We coordinate the ordering, shipping, receiving, and details with the others involved in your project.
Flooring, wall finishes, cabinets, appliances, fixtures, tile, countertops, etc. are all installed. Furniture and soft goods will have been shipped, received, inspected, and stored while the hard goods are being installed. After they are delivered and perfectly positioned in their places, your space is prepared for your arrival. The final reveal will then occur- very exciting!
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
I began my feng shui business in 2004, and my interior design portion in 2007. I started exploring Feng Shui in 2000, when I saw a public television program on its powers. When I had completed my initial training, I decided to transform the family gua of my home. My sister and I had been having difficulties getting along, although we had been closer than best friends our whole lives. Hours after I had finished the redecorating, she telephoned me- it was apparent from that moment on that the energy had been shifted, and all was again well with our relationship. When I left teaching elementary music in 2005, I had a vision of my combining Feng Shui and Interior Design. I earned by AA degree in Interior Design, and started working for a small design company. I then spread my wings to start my own company, Transformations for Interiors & Exteriors.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Being trained in both Eastern Feng Shui and Western interior design, our first consideration focuses on utilizing nature’s forces in a client’s space. The careful selection of elements within a design can bring its inhabitants positive energy. Then the meticulous selection and arrangement of built-ins, effective lighting and plumbing, color schemes, furniture, hardware and accessories are combined to meet the clients’ aesthetic sensibilities as well as their practical needs. Together, we will create a space that reflects your unique style and brings you amazing Feng Shui. Each year I donate either monetarily or in services to public television, Swedish Hospital, Tacoma Art Museum, and/or the March of Dimes.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?

Who owns your company or runs daily operations?
I own the company and run most of the daily operations.
What are your hours of operation?

What is the best compliment anyone can give you?
