How long have you been in business?
Eskimo North has been in business since 1985, first as a sole proprietorship offering Unix Timeshare services and then starting in 1992 incorporated providing Internet Services, both access and hosting.
What is your primary product or service?
Linux Shell accounts and Web Hosting.
How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Started a BBS in 1982, grew to the point where I wanted to go multi-line so in 1985, went to a Unix platform and started charging for access to cover costs. By 1992 we had developed our own internal network so when the first public Internet exchange was formed, we joined and started providing Internet services to our customers.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
We provide shell access and a rich program and web development environment, as well as cloud computing products, including an online office suite. Our mail system allows access via shell mailers, pop or imap, and web mail, so customers can access however they like instead of limiting to just one as many providers do. Customer data belongs to the customer, we don't mine it, sell it, or claim ownership of it. We have no phone tree or script readers here, customers who call will get someone technically knowledgeable directly on the phone.
How many locations do you have and do you have plans to expand?
We have one physical location but provide DSL across the US, dial across the US and Canada, and hosting products world-wide.
